Please Stop Drowning the Plants

By Hannah Yale

I remember when you bought all of those succulents,

You were so excited to fill the house with greenery,

To have something else to care for.

But you watered them every day,

And after about three months,

You were surprised when they rotted and died.

You gave those plants a loving home with sunlight

And more water than they could ever possibly need.

It is possible to love too aggressively.

It is possible to love selfishly.

I told you that you only have to water your succulents once a month,

But you still give them a splash from the watering can every weekend.
