I Don’t Want to be Pretty

By Ava Coglianese

I don’t want to be pretty

Like petals and delicate lace

I want to be pretty

In the rough sorta way

That an old barn

Is pretty

The way chipped nail polish

And wind chimes

And heat lightning

And creek water

Are pretty

Not the way you think of

But when the light hits me just right

I can be something ethereal
